Flower of the Day: Serbian Bellflower

Serbian bellflower (Campanula poscharskyana) forms a spreading, low groundcover that blooms for most of the summer. Evergreen (or nearly so) in mild climates, this herbaceous perennial works well in front of borders, in rock gardens, over walls and along paths. The species is very vigorous (though not invasive), especially when the plant meets fertile soil. If you want a less aggressive grower, choose ‘Blue Gown.’ Serbian bellflower doesn’t like warm, balmy nights, so it doesn’t do as well in the warm zones of the Southeast.
