The grape hyacinth (Muscari armeniacum) grows 6 to 12 inches tall and works well massed in bed, borders, rock gardens, under deciduous trees or planted in containers. The early-spring bloomer appreciates well-drained soil and grows best in full sun to part shade. It naturalizes quickly and easily. Some cultivars and related species are hardy in USDA Zones 3 and 9.

Muscari armeniacum, or more commonly known as Grape Hyachinth, is absolutely spectacular in mass, or naturalized, among Narcissus or Tulips which bloom quite earlier than these bulbs. The showy, compact blue-violet spires are a delight to see in spring.
