Materials Needed

  • watering can or garden hose
  • garden pots (optional)

Step 1: Bend Blackberry Stem

Blackberries and hybrids can be easily propagated in late summer by bending a new stem to the ground and burying the tip to a depth of 4 inches (10 cm). Firm it down, water well, and leave it attached to the main plant.

Step 2: Transplant

The stem will have rooted by the following spring, when it can be lifted from the ground and either potted or transplanted. Keep the young plant well watered until it establishes fully, and don’t allow it to fruit for the first two years.
