- black currant plant

Step 1: Prepare Ground
Dig a hole deeper than the root ball is tall, and shovel in some well-rotted garden compost into the base.
Step 2: Stool Plant
Check the level, and ensure the crown of the plant is positioned in the hole below the soil surface. This is referred to as "stooling."
Step 3: Backfill Hole
Backfill the hole with soil, and water the plant in well. New stems will develop from below soil level. Gooseberries can also be planted this way.
