A Wyandotte's lovely brown egg.

I find eggs to be inherently beautiful.  As the trend for backyard chickens continues to grow, so does the diversity of eggs.  Each breed of chicken lays a uniquely colored egg. Within each breed it is possible to distinguish which chicken has laid which egg.  Each chicken's egg has its own size, shape, coloring and specific speckling or markings.  No matter their differences, they all look and taste the same inside.  Before, keeping chickens I had no idea that the eggs that appear on the grocery store shelves have all been sorted and sized to appear uniform when in reality this couldn't be further from what occurs in nature.  Take a peek at the gallery below to see some of nature's masterpieces.
