Step 1: Small Bulbs
To plant small bulbs, cut an H-shaped cut in the sod and fold back the flaps. If necessary, dig out the soil to the recommended depth for the bulb type. Place bulbs randomly, growing point upward. Replace the soil, then fold back the sod and firm.
Step 2: Large Bulbs
To plant large bulbs in grass, start by scattering the bulbs randomly over the ground. Use a bulb planter to make a hole, then place the bulb inside. Fill in the hole with soil from the bottom of the core, then replace the circle of turf, firming in gently.
Most bulbs prefer free-draining soil, as they like to be fairly dry when dormant.
